Results from battleground swing states:
Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania, which has 19 Electoral College votes, may also most neatly encapsulate all the dynamics at play in the election. Its two big cities, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, are reliably Democratic, but Mr. Trump has found traction in the communities in between.
Here are the results from Pennsylvania:
North Carolina
Ever since Barack Obama narrowly carried it in his first election, Democrats have dreamt of adding North Carolina to the blue block of states that stretches down the U.S. East Coast. But so far, 2008 has proven a one-off.
Here are the results from North Carolina:
Georgia
In 8 of the last 10 elections, Georgia has voted for the Republican candidate, but demographic sea change in Atlanta and its suburbs made the Peach State competitive in 2020 for the first time in more than a generation.
Here are the results from Georgia:
Michigan
In 7 of the last 10 elections, Michigan has voted for the Democratic candidate. In 2020, Joe Biden the state won in with a margin of +2.8, though Mr. Trump squeaked by with it in 2016 with a margin of fewer than 11,000 votes.
Here are the results from Michigan:
Wisconsin
Once part of the Democrats’ blue wall, the state went to Mr. Trump in 2016 by a little over 20,000 votes and flipped back to Mr. Biden by a similar margin four years later. The state has Democratic centres in Milwaukee and Madison, with Republican bastions in between.
Here are the results from Wisconsin:
Arizona
This border state went to President Joe Biden by just 10,457 votes in 2020. That narrow margin, combined with its previous history as a Republican bastion, make it one of Mr. Trump’s most promising pickup opportunities.
Here are the results for Arizona:
Nevada
This western state has flipped back and forth between the parties several times since the 1990s, usually on margins of a few percentage points. But it has not yet proved decisive in an election.
