Trailing Hamilton’s Forge FC 2-1 after Wednesday’s opening leg of the Canadian Championship semifinal, Toronto FC has to wait until Aug, 21 for the return leg with the CPL champion.
Toronto midfielder Kosi Thompson will be looking forward to setting things right, it seems.
“Credit to them, they beat us 2-1. They took their two opportunities and they took them well,” the 21-year-old from Toronto said after training Friday. “Aside from two nights ago, it’s nice to see that Canadian football is starting to [grow] and become better but I still don’t think that [the Canadian Premier League] is anywhere close to first-team football in Canada in terms of [Major League Soccer’s] Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto. I still don’t think so. And it shouldn’t be the case.”
Forge, which lost to Toronto via penalty shootout in the final of the pandemic-delayed 2020 Canadian Championship final. dispatched CF Montreal 3-2 on aggregate in this year’s cup quarterfinal.
