  • Basketball: Canada’s men’s basketball team lost to France in the quarterfinals, ending its podium hopes despite coming into the tournament as a medal favourite. The Canadians fell behind early and couldn’t complete a comeback bid. Germany will face France in the semi-finals after beating Greece 76-63.
  • Boxing: Algerian boxer Imane Khelif easily won her 66-kg semi-final match, defeating Janjaem Suwannapheng of Thailand in a unanimous decision at a packed Roland Garros stadium. • Coach controversy: Rana Reider, coach of Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse, has had his accreditation withdrawn by the Canadian Olympic Committee and can no longer continue to coach athletes competing in the Paris Olympic Games, his lawyer has confirmed. In a statement today, the COC said it had revoked Reider’s credential after receiving information regarding the “appropriateness” of the coach’s accreditation.
