Superstar BMX cyclist Tory Nyhaug of Coquitlam, B.C., finished in seventh place in the Super Time Trial final on Friday, at the second BMX Supercross of 2012, in Randaberg, Norway. The race is part of the series sanctioned by the governing Union Cycliste Internationale.

Nyhaug, who finished fourth in the opening time trials of 2012 in Chula Vista, posted a time of 32.647 seconds on the new track in the scenic town.

"I wanted to podium but I'm still happy to finish seventh. I'm looking forward to racing tomorrow… it's going to be fun," said Nyhaug in a call from Norway.

In doing so, Nyhaug qualified for the supercross race, the only Canadian to do so. Three other countrymen who took part Friday were Derek Sipkoi (94th in 34.803), Connor McCormack (102nd in 35.419) and Mischa Partidge (111th in 36.104).

The top 64 riders of the time trials qualify for the elimination rounds of the supercross.

American rider Connor Fields posted the fastest time in the finals, 32.134. Liam Phillips of Britain was second at 32.

Fields will bid mpt to win his third consecutive Supercross victory Saturday. He won the last race last season, and the opening race this season in Chula Vista. Fields also won the time trials in Chula Vista.
