Bolstered in no small fashion by a huge three-run home run shot by Russell Martin in the bottom of the seventh, the Blue Jays would go on to earn a 4-0 victory over the Yankees to move another stop closer to the hallowed ground of the postseason. With the win, the Blue Jays won the American League East showdown over the Yankees two games to one, increasing their lead over New York atop the standing to 3 ½ games.
