Four members of Canada's national women's basketball team were selected in the 2016 WNBA Draft on Thursday. Ruth Hamblin, Jamie Weisner, Adut Bulgak and Nirra Fields were chosen in the three-round draft, a record showing for Canadian players.

"I think it's amazing," Hamblin, who was drafted out of Oregon State along with Weisner, said in a statement. "People are talking about this being the Golden Age of Canadian basketball and for us all to be a part of it is an amazing moment. It's just so exciting to have so many (Canadians) playing in the top league in the world."

Bulgak, the Florida State centre from Edmonton, was the highest Canadian pick, going 12th overall to the New York Liberty. Weisner (Connecticut Sun) and Hamblin (Dallas Wings) were taken back to back in the second round, 17th and 18th overall. Fields, the UCLA guard from Vancouver, was selected by the Phoenix Mercury with the eighth pick in the third round.
