Toronto Raptors' Fred VanVleet and Head Coach Nick Nurse react during their loss to the Utah Jazz in NBA basketball action in Toronto on Feb. 10.Chris Young/The Canadian Press

Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse will miss Sunday’s game against the visiting Detroit Pistons due to personal reasons, ESPN reported.

Assistant coach Adrian Griffin will serve as the acting head coach of the Raptors for the second time. He assumed the position in Toronto’s 105-94 loss to the New York Knicks in the finale of the 2019-20 season. In that game, Nurse made himself a healthy scratch to give Griffin an opportunity.

Griffin, 48, has been an assistant coach in Toronto for the past five seasons.

Nurse, 55, owns a 212-153 record during his five seasons as head coach of the Raptors. He was the 2019-20 NBA Coach of the Year, a year after leading the Raptors to the NBA title.
