Rowdy Tellez is certainly making large strides for himself as a recent September call-up for the Toronto Blue Jays – two bases at a time.
The 23-year-old rookie continued his incredibly torrid start to his Major League Baseball career, mashing two more doubles in the Blue Jays contest Friday night against the Cleveland Indians at Rogers Centre.
In total, Tellez has now collected six hits in his first three big league games, all of them doubles.
He added two more in Friday’s game where the Blue Jays (64-77) fashioned a nifty 3-2 win on a walk-off solo home run shot by Kevin Pillar off Cleveland reliever Adam Cimber in the bottom of the 11th inning.
After striking out in the second inning, Tellez stroked his first double of the night in the fifth and would later score to knot the game at 1-1.
Cleveland regained a 2-1 lead in the sixth when Jan Gomes knocked his 13th home run of the season off Toronto starter Marco Estrada, a line drive to leftfield.
In the seventh, Toronto’s Randal Grichuk doubled off Cleveland starter Carlos Carrasco leading off the inning. He would come around to score and tie things up once again when Tellez does what seemingly comes naturally – cranking his second double of the night to the gap in right-centre.
Carrasco, seeking win No. 17 on the year, had himself a night, allowing two runs (one earned) off six hits through eight innings, while striking out 14 Toronto batters.
