Toronto-based independent boutique Jacob Securities is increasing its reach by hiring a former global co-head of energy investment banking at Morgan Stanley, in addition to bringing on a merger specialist and an analyst.

Jacob, founded by renewable energy specialist Sasha Jacob, said that Don Reid will come aboard as a vice chairman specializing in drumming up business in conventional and renewable energy.

Mr. Reid's career in investment banking took him from Dominion Securities in Toronto and London to Goldman Sachs in New York to Morgan Stanley, where he was a global co-head for the energy group. Mr. Reid has done work with governments on public private partnerships and infrastructure builds.

Jacob has steadily built a business focusing on renewable energy, technology, mining and energy. While the business environment in mining and energy has been slow for all firms, renewable energy has been a steady source of transactions and technology is on an upswing.

The firm also recently hired Tyler Hand as a director specializing in mergers and acquisitions. he has previously worked at TD Securities and National Bank Financial, specializing in mining and mergers.

Jacob also has a new technology analyst, Damian Wojcichowsky. His previous stops as a technology analyst were at Credit Suisse, RBC Capital Markets and Scotia Capital. Sameet Kanade, who had been a technology analyst at Jacob, recently became head of technology investment banking for the shop.
