Kids pitch business ideas to Warren Buffett

It's already been a busy week for the famed billionaire, and it's only Tuesday. Warren Buffett is in Nebraska today, serving up the new S'mores Blizzard flavour at a Dairy Queen and yesterday, he spent the day listening to business pitches from children between 7 and 16 years old, according to the Associated Press.

The entrepreneurial contest is tied to The Secret Millionaire's Club, a cartoon narrated by Buffett that teaches kids about finance. The webisodes air on the Hub cable network and online.

The winner of the competition, which drew 4,000 entries, was 10-year-old Matthew Meyer, who designed The Right Writer, a wristband with an elastic strap that helped him learn to hold a pen correctly. He was awarded $5,000 and, along with the other finalists, 10 Class B Berkshire shares.

Mr. Buffett said he was impressed with the thought the kids all put into their products and how articulate they were.

"They're so far ahead of where I was at that age," Mr. Buffett said.

Yona Shtern, the co-founder and CEO of Beyond the Rack, joins the lineup of keynote speakers for the inaugural Atlantic Venture Forum in Halifax next month, reports Techvibes.

The primary objective of the Atlantic Venture Forum is to build a world class annual financing and partnering forum for the highest potential emerging IT, Cleantech and Life Sciences companies to present their innovations and business models to the most active. And with less than a month to go, it's already being billed as Atlantic Canada's premier access to capital event, says Techvibes.
