The action
The seller lives out of the country and had purchased the rental property as an investment. Six groups went through the unit and listing agent Cheryl Davie received one offer. The buyers purchased the apartment for their son.
What they got
The buyers got a one-bedroom loft in the 166-unit Van Horne building in the heart of Gastown, with 15-foot-ceilings and windows that let in a ton of natural light.
At 459 square feet, it’s a narrow space, but the high ceilings and small patio that faces an inner courtyard make it feel bigger.
Built 28 years ago, the loft design has held up well, with concrete floors and the open concept space. But the kitchen and bathroom could use an update.
The agent’s take
June was busier than the rest of the summer, says Ms. Davie. By September, there was some pickup, but the market remains “sluggish,” despite interest rate drops, she said.
People who viewed the unit had concerns about crime in the neighbouring Downtown Eastside area.
“We had a lot of interest and showings, and most feedback was about the neighbourhood and people not feeling confident living there,” says Ms. Davie.
The sale completed in September.
