What they got
Big White ski resort has a ski-in, ski-out village centre. This two-level mountain view recreational townhouse has three bedrooms, four bathrooms, stone fireplace, wood floors and cathedral ceiling.
The kitchen has granite countertops, the master bedroom has a steam shower and there is custom millwork throughout.
Skiers can ski directly to and from the front door, with access to five lifts. There’s also a private hot tub. The six-unit, 20-year-old building doesn’t have rental restrictions, so the unit can be rented when not in use.
The action
The 1,762-square-foot unit was originally listed for $1.15-million but had been relisted at $848,800.
“In my opinion it was overpriced and listed at the wrong time,” says buyer’s agent Richard Deacon.
Mr. Deacon says the best time to list a ski resort unit is in October or November, during ski season. The resort mostly shuts down by May, except for some mountain biking.
“By the time the season picked up, seasonally the market had dipped and they had to catch up, so from a buying perspective we caught it at the right time as the sellers wanted to unload it.”
The agent’s take
“Strata fees are higher in this building, for no real amenities. So that may have turned many off,” Mr. Deacon says.
“But this is one of the top three buildings in Big White and maybe the best for true ski in, ski out, to the centre of the mountain.”
The sale completed March 30.
