Only a few buyers examined the inside of this three-bedroom bungalow in Whitby, about 60 kilometres east of downtown Toronto, as its lot of more than half an acre was the main draw. Both offers eclipsed the asking price, with the final sale going $100,100 over.

“There is a little pocket of large homes and large lots, so there hasn’t been a lot of listings like that in the last three or four months,” said agent Deborah Glover.

“It’s more for someone that wanted to buy it, tear it down and build a mansion because it’s a huge lot at 75 by 330 feet.

“The next-door neighbour has built a big $3-million house.”

What they got

“It’s in a really desirable area because all the lots are, maybe not as deep as this, but very wide lots,” said Ms. Glover.

“There’s a school on the street, and it’s really close to everything, like shopping, transit and easy access to the 401 [highway].”
