The action
Around the corner from Bestview Park, near the Don River, this nearly 60-year-old house had about a dozen visitors and a conditional offer within a week. Ten more buyers visited over the next few days, but the seller halted tours once the first bidder waived their conditions and finalized a deal at $1.71-million.
“We did better than we expected because the house has some issues,” said Mr. Thom. “Like, the electric baseboard heating is a deterrent for some people.
“After we got a conditional sale, we continued to show it and it usually slows down. But it was by far, one of our most active showings.”
Mr. Thom said the sellers made wise improvements to enhance the property’s appearance for young couples and families.
“On my advice, they installed quite a few pot lights to give it a modern look,” said Mr. Thom.
“They also refurbished the hardwood floors.”
What they got
This four-bedroom house has a standard, two-storey design with an upgraded stone façade, an attached double garage, and interlocking stone walkways.
The main floor has a dining room kitchen and two entertaining areas. The one at the rear has the benefit of a fireplace and sliding doors to a south-facing patio on the 50- by 120-foot lot.
There are three bathrooms and a laundry room by the stairs to a recreation area in the basement.
The agent’s take
“Somebody paid a premium for the stone front, so it adds beauty and character to the house,” said Mr. Thom.
“It’s in a good location in Willowdale, in a good school catchment area, and has convenient access to TTC and the highway.”
