The action

During the first week of October, this four-bedroom Edwardian was visited by dozens of buyers, including many families enticed by its location less than 300 metres from Jackman Avenue Jr. Public School and its attractive price under $1.8-million.

“That house is in one of the city’s top 10 school districts,” said agent Paul Maranger.

“There are not that many homes that trade in the neighbourhood for that school district, and a lot of the houses in Playter Estates are more expensive.”

The recent restoration of this 110-year-old house, along with the addition of historic replicas and upgrades, also strengthened its appeal for three bidders. One pushed their final price up to $1.901-million.

“There aren’t that many houses with a lot of original elements to them, like we mostly see people paint woodwork to give houses a more current look,” Mr. Maranger said.

“This home had rich wood tones, copper and warm paint colours, and heritage-style interiors.”

What they got

This 2½-storey, semi-detached house has original features throughout, such as leaded glass windows, hardwood flooring and fireplaces in entertaining areas on the main and second floors.

The dining room has beamed ceilings but was partly opened to the kitchen. It was also remodelled with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and banquette seating.

The basement was refinished with heated floors and a stylish fourth bathroom.

Outside is a south-facing patio and a carport facing a laneway behind the 19- by 117-foot lot.

“On the second floor, one room has an original fireplace with original tile and a walkout to a rooftop deck over the porch that was really sweet,” Mr. Maranger said.

“The basement was unusually exceptional because of the fact it was lowered, and it has a beautiful bathroom consistent to the renovation throughout the house.”
