Today’s comments were chosen from Robyn Doolittle’s story, Unfounded case ends with conviction 19 years after police dismissed sexual-assault complaint. You can read the initial investigation, published in February, 2017, here: Why police dismiss 1 in 5 sexual assault claims as baseless.

The identity of the complainant in the Ottawa case is protected under a publication ban, but The Globe and Mail can identify her as 'L.'Jennifer Roberts/The Globe and Mail

Unlike most stories of this nature, which are brutal just reading the details, thank God for the last line: “The following year, she graduated from university.” Yes! - Stephen Saines

Good on The Globe for initiating the reporting on this issue many months ago. Even one new case solved is a step forward, many more to go. - Malcolm09

Excellent, important work by The Globe in its investigative reporting of police response and lack of response to sexual assault in this country. Reporter Robyn Doolittle is clearly top of her field. - Robin H

Good for her. I love justice. Well done Globe and Mail. - CognitiveDisonnance

When it takes a pregnancy for rape claims to be taken seriously - 20 years after the fact, you know there’s a problem. Moving forward let’s hope that the police and medical system are better equipped to manage reports. - Seasandskys

While I applaud the outcome in this case, the Globe’s whole Unfounded push has an air of misandry to it that is tough to ignore. Believe her (no matter what), disbelieve the Police (ritualistically). - El Guapo 66

In response to El Guapo 66:

There is no misandry to this series in the least, as a far as I can see. How is putting the spotlight on improper investigations into sexual assault misandry in any way? - Rationalthought

El Guapo, I do not understand. How is reporting on a case where a guy raped a young girl “misandry”? And she was not believed, and in this case, the police did not do their job. There are many good cops out there. I know a few of them. But in this case they did not do their job. And the guy really did rape the young girl and that had a severe impact on her life. It’s all just the facts. - G_S_P
