Uganda

Last September, Ugandan Integrity Minister Nsaba Buturo proposed to outlaw miniskirts on the grounds that they are "indecent," and could even distract Ugandan men to the point of increasing traffic accidents. "What's wrong with a miniskirt? You can cause an accident because some of our people are weak mentally."

Kenya

The Mungiki sect, a group that says it promotes the traditions of the Kikuyu tribe but is banned in Kenya, has publicly stripped women wearing clothes its members deem indecent, such as miniskirts and pants.

Nigeria

Radical Muslim opposition to the 2002 Miss World competition in Abuja fuelled violent protests in Nigeria, leading the pageant's organizers to relocate the event to London. The protests had been sparked in part by a Nigerian newspaper article's suggestion that the prophet Mohammed might have chosen one of the beauty-pageant contestants as a wife.

South Africa

In March, 2008, 25-year-old Nwabisa Ngcukana was sexually assaulted by a group of taxi drivers who said her miniskirt was indecent. Hundreds of women's-rights activists wearing miniskirts and tight shirts took to the streets of Johannesburg in protest, sometimes to the sexual taunting of taxi drivers.
