The badly beaten body of a 59-year-old woman was discovered at a Parkdale rooming house early Monday afternoon, across the street from the scene of a high-profile homicide last year in which a mental patient was attacked and killed.
Police said no connection was being drawn between the two incidents.
"It's true that it's the same location, but right now that's being treated as coincidental," a police source said.
The unidentified woman's body was so badly injured that the cause of death must be established by an autopsy, the source said.
However, she did not appear to have been dead for long.
The victim lived at 17 Maynard Avenue, near Queen Street and Jameson Avenue, the same address as the former home of a 33-year-old man currently charged with second-degree murder in the March, 2011 death of 62-year-old George Wass, a mental health patient.
Mr. Wass, who lived at 18 Maynard, on the west side of the street, was attacked by a masked assailant who allegedly targeted three other mentally challenged residents of the area.
The accused killer's case remains before the courts.
The unnamed woman's death follows two weekend gun homicides and raises the city's homicide total for the year to 46.
