Two gun shootings in the past 24 hours have pushed Toronto's homicide tally for 2012 to 45 – two more than at the same time last year.
The newest victim died just after midnight Monday, when police were called to an address on Flemington Road in the north-central part of the city, near Lawrence Avenue West and the Allen Road.
The unnamed man died soon after being taken to hospital. He had been shot once.
Less than 12 hours earlier in Scarborough, at around 1:15 p.m. Sunday, the body of Jay Bennie Yabut, 28, was found in a garage at an address near Military Trail and Neilson Road. He too had sustained a single bullet wound.
Two men wearing dark clothing were seen fleeing the crime scene, heading west, but no arrests have been made in either killing.
Meanwhile, detectives investigating a third Toronto homicide, the stabbing death last week of a woman slain in Cabbagetown while walking home from her night-shift job at a downtown hotel, have released photos of the clothing she wore when she was attacked.
Nighisti Semret, 55, was wearing a grey jacket, navy blue pants and a black headscarf with sequin patterning. Police hope the photos, posted on the Toronto Police Service web site, will jog the memory of someone who may have seen Ms. Semret between 6:30 and 7 a.m. last Tuesday, in the area of Sherbourne and Ontario streets, north of Carlton Street and south of Wellesley Street.
