A 17-year-old Toronto youth is recovering in hospital after being shot in the stomach in the city's west end early Sunday, the latest in a recent string of juvenile gunshot victims, including two aged 15 who were killed.
Police said they were looking for a white, four-door Toyota which drove away after shots were fired outside a house on Woolner Avenue, near Jane Street and St. Clair Avenue, shortly after 1 a.m.
The driver was described as a short male, with dark skin.
Police said the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach but was able to run to a nearby apartment building for help.
Last week, 15-year-old St. Aubyn Rodney was also shot in the stomach, at a public-housing complex in the city's north end. He was pronounced dead in hospital and a 17-year-old acquaintance who was with him at the time has been charged with manslaughter.
On Jan. 18, 15-year-old Tyson Bailey also died, after being shot several times in the stairwell of a Regent Park highrise.
And on Jan. 23 in Brampton, just west of Toronto, nine-year-old Kesean Williams died after a bullet was fired through the living-room window of his home, where he was watching television.
No arrests have been made in either of those two homicides.
Separately, Toronto police were also looking for suspects after a shooting from around the Gardiner Expressway early Saturday morning sent bullets whizzing into a high-rise condominium building on Queens Quay West.
More than one apartment was struck, but no one was hurt in the 4:30 a.m. incident, and police suggested the culprit had fired randomly from a car driving on the Gardiner.
Traffic on the expressway was disrupted for several hours near Spadina Avenue as police investigated.
