A man is dead after he was shot during an interaction with police near Lansdowne Avenue and Dupont Street Monday morning.
Police said officers were initially called to the area for reports of a person with a knife. The Special Investigations Unit said officers were investigating a man on Campbell Avenue at about 10:40 a.m. and during the interaction the man was shot.
The man was taken to St. Michael's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the SIU said in a statement. Emergency medical services have said the man was in his 40s.
Police and the SIU, an arm's length agency that's called in when there are reports of situations involving police that result in injuries, are yet to confirm whether it was a police weapon that was fired.
