Toronto police are seeking three men wanted for a violent holdup earlier this month in which a security services company building in North York was broken into and robbed, and an employee pistol-whipped.
The suspects, one of whom was armed with a silver-coloured handgun, entered a facility near Finch Avenue West and Weston Road where Inka Security Systems stores armoured cars, Staff Insp. Mike Earl told reporters.
Inka does cash pickups for numerous clients across the Toronto area and some of the stolen money could have been from TTC fares, Staff Insp. Earl said, but he would not disclose how much was taken in the April 14 heist.
Two of the men pistol-whipped an unarmed, 36-year-old employee who was later treated in hospital for facial injuries, and then fled in a car that may be a late-model, grey Honda Accord driven by a third suspect.
Police would not say how the intruders got inside the fortified premises but acknowledged they are investigating the possibility they had help from inside.
Security-camera images were released showing two men in their mid-to-late 20s wearing dark clothing, one taller and heavier than the other.
It was unclear why authorities waited so long before publicizing the holdup.
"The investigators are interviewing everybody, we haven't closed our minds to anything right now," Staff Insp. Earl said.
"It does heighten our concern when you have armed bandits going into an armoured car company with guns knowing that people that work there have guns."
