At a red-brick house in Brampton, police could see someone was in trouble.
Dispatched to the home west of Toronto on Sunday morning by a family member concerned about the welfare of a relative in the home, Peel police officers spotted a person in the residence, but the individual did not respond to calls. Officers broke in and found three dead adults, including the relative, Constable Fiona Thivierge told reporters in a media update televised on CP24. Police believe they may be dealing with a murder-suicide.
"That's how it's looking at this time, but again nothing can be confirmed completely until such time as the investigators have completed their collection of evidence and interviewing of all the neighbours," Constable Thivierge said.
The dead include two men and a woman. Police found a 57-year-old woman, a 61-year-old man and a 91-year-old man dead inside the home, CP24 reported. Police have confirmed that all of the victims resided at the home, the station said.
The names of the trio were not released Sunday and their connection to each other was not immediately clear.
"We will be interviewing family members and friends, et cetera, to see if there was anything that was leading up to what occurred today," Constable Thivierge said. "It's a tragedy for the family involved."
Police officers spent part of Sunday canvassing residents of Hinchley Wood Grove, a neighbourhood of two-storey, detached houses. The coroner is working to establish the cause and time of the deaths, Constable Thivierge said.
Several neighbours told City News a couple lived in the house. One said the pair has resided in the neighbourhood for more than two decades. It is not known whether the couple is among the deceased.
