A 26-year-old Brampton man has been arrested in connection with a violent bank robbery in the city's west end Sunday that left a customer and a bank teller wounded by gunfire.
Andre Palmer, who's alleged to have vaulted over the counter of the TD Bank during the holdup in dramatic scenes captured on security videotape, faces multiple charges, including attempted murder.
He's accused of shooting a 54-year-old man who grabbed him and chased him outside the bank on St. Clair Avenue, just west of Runnymede, and a 22-year-old teller who was struck by a bullet as Mr. Palmer and the customer struggled.
Both victims are expected to recover.
Detectives are still looking for a second suspect, Staff Inspector Mike Earl, who heads the holdup squad, told reporters Tuesday.
The Canadian Bankers Association has posted a $100,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the robbery, which marked the first time in many years that shots have been fired during a Toronto bank heist.
The robbers drove away in a stolen car with an undisclosed amount of cash, some of which was stained by red dye from a security device, police said.
