Restaurant and storefront signage in the middle of the sidewalk could be viewed simply as a pedestrian impediment, but Globe and Mail photographer Peter Power, who captured this image of the spiralling post holding up the sign for Jump Café & Bar on Wellington Street, has another perspective: "It breaks up the space and gives you something unique to look at and, as the light in the city changes, hidden gems like this make themselves better known." It was an image that also almost came at a small cost for Mr. Power. "Some images require risks and personal sacrifices," he says. "In this case, I just had to illegally park my car at the curb."
