Peter Tarr, 31, a former child combatant who now begs for money on the streets of Monrovia, Liberia, speaks about his past experience in the wars here. Tarr fought on the side of Taylor's forces since he was eleven, but was later captured and fought against Taylor. Later, after Taylor became president, he fought with the Liberian Army. It was during this time that he was injured at two different times. It was because of the second injury to his right arm that he lost it. He says that he is unhappy that former president Charles Taylor brought war to the country which hurt him and many others, but he will accept whatever ruling is made at The Haig when the international court delivers its verdict on Thursday.Peter Power/The Globe and Mail

Isolated groups, like these in downtown Monrovia, Liberia on April 26, 2012, gathered wherever they could find a working television to watch and listen to the verdict being announced by the special international tribunal on Sierra Leone in the case against former Liberian President Charles " Ghankay" Taylor. Mr. Taylor was found guilty of aiding and abetting in eleven counts of crimes against humanity, including murder and rape. There was a lot of heated discussion on the streets after the verdict was finally announced, as well as surprise at the atmospheric effect in the sky when the sun was surrounded by a rainbow - which people took to mean a variety of things.Peter Power/The Globe and Mail

The company owns concessions to 220,000 hectares of land that will be used for the production of palm oil.
