Person Tyra Banks

In the next chapter of her seemingly endless, certainly clueless quest to take over the world, model and TV host Tyra Banks announced this week that she is writing a series of novels for young adults.

Banks revealed her plan in a meandering post on her website, Tyra.com, explaining the series, called "Modelland (pronounced 'Model Land') … takes you to a fantastical place you've never seen, or heard about, or read about before."

Yeah, we bet.

Place Yorkville

When it comes to homegrown labels we love, Kimberley Newport-Mimran's Pink Tartan is near the top of the heap. So we were thrilled this week to learn that the label will be opening its first freestanding shop this fall.

Newport-Mimran, who told us she is "so excited" about expanding her preppy-chic brand, revealed that the outlet will be housed in the current home of the Paisley Shop, the famed antiques store, in Toronto's tony Yorkville area.

Sounds like home sweet home. Shall we start lining up now?

Thing The Wheel of Nutrition plate

Since we generally prefer eating to thinking, it's a delight to find a product that helps us do both with minimal effort.

The Wheel of Nutrition plates (spotted this week on the terrific design blog Swiss-Miss.com) come in three portion designs that show how much of each food group should be on a plate.

The tongue-in-cheek dishes, produced by an Icelandic design collective, use a pie-graph format to express portion size, which is perfect since our diet consists mostly of pizza.
