Amid the presumably hypothetical debate over deporting Justin Bieber from the United States, the troubled Canadian pop star is rumoured to be selling his Calabasas home.
If Bieber does run into immigration issues, the timing couldn't be better. TMZ notes that the 19-year-old hasn't exactly been a model neighbour; during a feud, Bieber allegedly spit on and threatened to kill the homeowner next door.
Calabasas is an affluent hillside city within Los Angeles County. Wikipedia lists Cameron Diaz, Tori Spelling, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, David Hasselhoff, Michael Jackson's children and fellow Canadian Howie Mandel among past and current residents.
A separate TMZ report claims Bieber is currently scouting new domiciles in a wide-open area called Hidden Valley, situated 20 miles from his current Calabasas neighbourhood.
Located in scenic Ventura Couny, Hidden Valley is known more for its pastoral setting and rolling hills than celebrity occupants. The only notable famous person who lives there is actor Tom Selleck, who resides on a ranch formerly owned by singer Dean Martin.
When Calabasas mayor Fred Gaines was asked by the Los Angeles Times about the reported move, he replied:
"The fact that a talented international musician like Mr. Bieber chooses to live in Calabasas is certainly a feather in our cap and a tribute to our safe and beautiful community," he said, while adding, "But the peace and privacy of our residents is the city's top priority. We have unfortunately had a number of breaches of the peace related to Mr. Bieber and his residence, and the sheriff has acted appropriately in addressing those incidents."
No word yet on listing price on the 10,000-square-foot mansion, which according to The Los Angeles Times includes a "high-ceiling foyer, library, movie theater with stadium seating, wet bar and wine cellar. There's also a guesthouse. All told there are seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms."
The home formerly belonged to Eddie Murphy's ex-wife, Nicole Murphy.
Here's a thought: if every one of his 13 million Instagram followers pitched in three or four dollars apiece, they could likely manage to have adequate funds (the question of how everyone would fit into the home notwithstanding).
Whatever transpires, the events in Bieber's life these past few weeks suggest some lucky real-estate agent is going to collect a fabulous commission in the near future.
