How can you tell if a guy is not over his ex? How about convincing his current love that dressing up as his ex-wife and her new guy is a good idea? In drag, to boot.
In a tabloid photo making the rounds, Canadian rocker Deryck Whibley is dressed up for a Halloween party as his ex, singer Avril Lavigne, in a streaked Barbie-doll blonde wig. Standing beside him in weirdly realistic glued-on facial hair and another shiny wig is his girlfriend Ari Cooper dressed up as Lavigne's fiance, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger.
Perhaps the news that his ex is about to marry still feels a little fresh.
Lavigne and Kroeger announced their engagement back in August, were quickly dubbed "Chavril," and remain something of a curiosity to observers who may have - wrongly - assumed the punk-rock Whibley was more her type than the stadium-filling Nickelback singer Kroeger.
Then again, she did divorce Whibley in 2009 after just three years of marriage, so what do they know?
And, Kroeger's response to the costumed dig might sway more folks to team Kroeger, too. He reportedly tweeted: "Hey Deryck loved the costumes! we were going to dress up as you guys this year but all the parties had celebrity themes haha! CK"
As the writers for TMZ put it, "And that is how you get owned by Nickelback."
Consider the Canadian-made tabloid story a public service announcement; if you're planning on spoofing your ex on Halloween Wednesday, you may want to consider a plan B. It's not too late to rig yourself up as the Frankenstorm or Binder-Full-Of-Women, after all.
