PERSON THE CAT LADY
Last year's star-studded Grey Gardens movie paid homage to the Beales - two of the most notorious cat ladies in recent memory - and now that scary-yet-endearing archetype is having another fashionable moment.
Vogue's charmingly offbeat creative director, Grace Coddington (above), recently appeared on Martha Stewart's show talking about her love for cats - and sporting an ostentatious cat-charm necklace. Eccentric chanteuse and hot mess Amy Winehouse, meanwhile, is said to currently own about a dozen cats.
It is nice to see such stylish feline-loving females getting their due, but our heart will always belong to the unapologetically crazy Simpsons cat lady.
PLACE FASHIONISTA UNIVERSITY
Since the children are our future and all, get ready for some strutting in 2010.
Fashionista University is a set of fashion courses taught by two designers and a publicist. Held in New York's Garment District, the seven-week program promises "no fashionista left behind." The Saturday series is open to high-school and college students and the privilege of attending costs $600 (U.S.) a course.
While we applaud the entrepreneurial effort of the organizers, we simply can't get behind the garish hot-pink website. Black is the new black, ladies - didn't you get the memo?
THING 100,000 YEARS OF BEAUTY
If you're a fan of coffee-table books, this one's a real doozy.
Essentially five books in one, Gallimard's 100,00 Years of Beauty celebrates the many traditions and rituals that make up the history - and future - of beauty.
Each of the tomes represents a historical category: prehistory, antiquity, classical age, modernity and future. All feature timelines, descriptions and fascinating photos and illustrations.
The collection is a must-have for beauty and history junkies alike, although we're probably not going to be reviving many of the older rituals. Filing your teeth into points? Um, no thanks.
