Face The World Foundation Gala, June 15, Vancouver
Face The World, the BC-based charitable foundation whose mission it is to support the smaller, often overlooked organizations, hosted its annual gala dinner on June 15. For the past 33 years, the organization’s founder Jacqui Cohen, President of Army & Navy, has made use of her own Point Grey home as the spot for the annual summer-timed dinner. This year, some 200 guests gathered in a tent in her garden, and by night’s end raised $1.7-million together, which will in due time, be distributed to the various organizations focused on programs which support some of the city’s most vulnerable including abused children and women, the hungry or homeless and the elderly. Since it’s founding, the organization has raised more than $21-million for hundreds of organizations, including Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood House, Burnaby Community Services and Alzheimer’s Society of BC. There in the garden to support the foundation and in turn it’s beneficiaries: CEO of Bosa Properties Colin Bosa, Chairman & CEO of ZLC Garry Zlotnik and Marcus & Millichap’s Mario Negris, who all joined as Corporate Angel donors for 2024; artists including Cori Creed, Tiko Kerr and Martha Sturdy (who gave a piece to the live auction); broadcaster Vicki Gabereau; former politician turned chair of BC Ferries, Joy MacPhail; and chair and CEO of Gold Royalty Corp David Garofalo and his wife Christie.
The Butterfly Ball, May 23, Toronto
The 25th edition of the Butterfly Ball, the annual black-tie dinner which serves as Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre’s most important annual fundraiser was given May 23 in Toronto. This year $1.1-million was raised, funds which will support Boost CYAC’s important programs that provide support for children who must testify against their abuser in criminal court. Trauma therapy and advocacy as well as medical examinations, court preparation and accompaniment are all undertaken at Boost’s Centre. Among the 400 guests out to support: Claire MacNamara and Trish Del Sorbo, who served as co-chairs; Divine Brown, who performed at the top of the night and Sangita Patel who returned as host; Chair of the Board, entrepreneur Regan P. Watts, who introduced the inaugural Chair’s award given to Jonathan and Georgia Aune of Montreal, who were recognized for their immense contributions to Boost; Boost Fundraising Advisory Board Co-Chairs, Mark Mulroney and Candice Sinclair, there with their respective partners Vanessa Mulroney and Micki Gordic.
