Peter, who prefers to use only his first name, lives in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside in a small, one-room apartment on social assistance. To make ends meet, he resells found items from the garbage. 'It's all stuff basically accumulated, has been given to me or ,you know, got out of dumpsters ... I don't steal anything.' This is Peter's second time living in the Downtown Eastside: 'It's easier because you know all the ropes ... but it's harder because you're here again and that's the tough part about it.'

I'm broke right now,

I need food money, so this is the way I'm surviving. ... I've been out here for about an hour and a half, and I've made $2 and

a cigarette.
