PERSON

OPRAH

Oprah Winfrey has been using her weight issues as show fodder for years now. Clearly, her struggles are part of what make her so relatable. But her latest exercise in dieting prompts us to say, "Please don't, girl," instead of "You go, girl." Inspired by Canadian motivational speaker Eckhart Tolle and the book Quantum Wellness by Kathy Freston, the talk-show host is following a 21-day detox diet - and blogging about it at oprah.com. So far, entries are dull (she had a baked potato for dinner on Day 1). We suggest checking back in around Day 17. Yeah, she should be nice and hunger-crazed by then.

PLACE

SAN VITTORE PRISON

The latest runway show in Milan drew attention not so much for the fashion, but the seamstresses. The female inmates at the San Vittore prison in Milan staged a fashion show of their women's-wear line this week - under supervision of prison guards. Real models worked the runway and also wore outfits by top Italian designers such as Giorgio Armani, Prada and Alberta Ferretti. How's John Galliano going to top this spectacle?

THING

SALMON-SKIN BIKINI

You like salmon-skin sushi rolls - so why not wear the stuff? Chilean designer Claudia Escobar, who now lives in Scotland, has created luxury bikinis ($500) and pants ($1,500) out of the natural material, which is usually thrown away. And the best part is when you tire of the look, you can feed it to your dog as a two-piece treat.
