Person

Todd Oldham

File this one under Weird Brand Extensions. Todd Oldham used to be a high-end fashion designer. Then he switched gears and became the first big name to design for Target - very cool. Next he hooked up with La-Z-Boy to create recliners - still cool. And in October, it was announced he would be creative director for Old Navy - sort of cool. His latest venture? Designing St. Patrick's Day flower arrangements for FTD that come in utterly tacky vases. Not cool.

Place

MTS Centre, Winnipeg

We return your attention to the MTS Centre because it is home to the Tim Hortons Brier this weekend. And while we always find men yelling "hurry hard" fascinating, this time we are more interested in their curling outfits. Designed by Mondetta (also based in Winnipeg), the duds are surprisingly stylish. Bright colours (including green belts!) bold stripes, narrow pants - these guys are nailing the spring trends. Although in real life cufflinks are a preferred accessory over brooms.

Thing

Louis Vuitton ROSES

Seriously, what's with all the designer flowers? At least Oldham's are real. Louis Vuitton has come out with fake white roses - embossed with the LV logo, natch - to mark White Day In Japan. The special day is like Valentine's Day part 2. In February, women give gifts to guys. A month later, guys return the favour. And apparently what women want is an artificial LV bud. A rose is a rose is a rose - unless it's from Vuitton, and then it costs $40 a pop.
