Person

Rihanna

What a surprise. Rihanna has translated the smash success of her Umbrella tune into a line of - you guessed it - umbrellas. Created for Totes, the range will sell at Macy's in New York this spring, with prices ranging from $20 to $50. No word yet on whether she has learned to pronounce "umbrella" properly. It doesn't have 11 syllables, honey.

Place

Adour restaurant

Captain Jean-Luc Picard would feel right at home at Adour, Alain Ducasse's new restaurant in New York. The bar is equipped with built-in electronic wine lists: Grab a seat, float your hand over the bar and you can flick through pages of info - varietals, tasting notes, producer details - at the touch of no button. All that's missing to complete the Starship Enterprise vibe is Whoopi Goldberg in that ridiculous hat.

Thing

Stride gum

There's a new gum in town. Stride - The Ridiculously Long Lasting Gum has hit Canadian shelves. Designed to last a really, really long time without hardening, losing flavour or falling apart, it's aimed at "young gum lovers who want a gum that can keep up with them while they're playing video games or doing their own thing," according to the press release. It's promoted as "the perfect gum to get you through those long, boring days or tedious tasks." Stride does last a ridiculously long time. So long, in fact, that chewing it became a tedious task. Who saw that one coming?
