Happy Halloween: Here are dogs in costumes
Sales of pet costumes have done up 68% in the last two years, with $368 million in sales in the States last year, according to the American National Retail Federation. Happy Halloween, from my pug Boo.
I dress up my six year old Chihuahua/Terrier, Bandit every year on Halloween - six years running! - because he looks so cute and I can't resist. Once, he was jail bird and I was police officer and last year, he was basketball player. This year, he’s going as a decadent banana split. He’ll wear his costume for about an hour on Halloween and seems humiliated for ever minute of it. I bribe him with treats and that seems to help. I hope he forgives me.
Teddy, a 3 month old mini schnauzer: I bought the costume the day I bought Teddy. On Hallowen, we are going trick or treating with friends’ kids - my husband and I are going to be in our hockey jerseys (Toronto vs Edmonton) and Teddy is our "Ruffaree"! How could we not include our puppy in Halloween? Teddy is our first puppy, basically our baby, so we can't help but do everything that parents would do with their children - dress them up, take pictures, etc.

My friends’ kids decided Wally needed a costume - he makes quite the diva. I think that if they're a family member (which of course they are!) then they should be included! And since I don't have kids, my dogs are like my kids, so why not dress them up?
My 9 year old whippet Ribsy and I go almost everywhere together, so it was only natural that we went as a complete breakfast. (I went as a piece of toast, to compliment his outfit.) We made a rather fetching duo, if I do say so myself. We all get one life to make memories, and I choose to do so with my dog.
This is Frank, trick or treating as a beautiful butterfly
This is Sherman and Bonnie, our pugs. We dress them up every year and the neighbourhood kids trick or treating always get a laugh. This year the pugs will be re-using their costumes from last year, I was too busy trying to find a costume for my newborn baby to wear.
Frankie, my 3 ½-year-old dachshund, doesn’t mind getting dressed up so I take full advantage. For the past two years he was a shark but decided to change it up this time. The only costume I won’t subject him to? A hot dog.
This is our chocolate lab, Chipper, as the superdog that he is.
I love Halloween, and every year, Ruby has no choice but to join in the fun. This year, my crime-fighting batdog had a trusty sidekick (Florence, as Robin).
