For spring 2015, Karl Lagerfeld took his cues from the spiky, wild beauty of the natural world. His fantastical runway was festooned with 300 handmade flowers, which took six months to make. The garden-inspired display made the perfect backdrop for a bevvy of candy-coloured suits and playful party dresses in the light yet sophisticated collection.
Valentino
A wistful romanticism prevailed throughout Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli’s prim yet dreamy collection. Painter Marc Chagall’s Russian heritage served as inspiration for folkloric prints.
Christian Dior
Bold, graphic silhouettes signalled Raf Simons’s seasonal inspiration: the otherworldly punk opera of David Bowie. Vinyl boots, exaggerated shapes and a crayon-box worthy collection of colours lent a much-welcome edge to the storied house’s typically ladylike vibe. Standouts included sheer floral coats made futuristic through the clever use of plastic and brightly striped pleated looks including the flared skirt above, styled the modern way: with a crop top.
Armani Privé
Japan-inspired luxury permeated this collection which was filled with bamboo-printed silks, obi belts and shades of blue, green and the palest beige.
Giambattista Valli
Chiffon-clad models sashayed down a flower-print carpet in tribute to two distinctly different muses: Coco Chanel and Janis Joplin. Fur capes like the one above were equal parts classic and rock ‘n’ roll.
