The promise
If your style lives or dies by the scruff on your face – I know mine does – then Conair thinks it has the trimmer for you. The i-Stubble promises to give you the most precise 5-o'clock shadow yet, whether you like to wear it short or long.
How it works
The i-Stubble has the usual array of technology you've come to expect: electro-chemically formed blades, LCD display, rechargeable battery, contour-hugging trimmer head. Its major innovation is the motorized length control. A grill that sits over the blades allows you to adjust the trimmer to your desired length – anywhere from 0.4 millimetres (described as "short stubble") tos five millimetres (a generous "short beard") – in 0.2- and 0.5-millimetre increments.
How to use it
Before you get down to business, take out a ruler and measure 0.4 millimetres. Now imagine those sharp blades 0.4 millimetres from your face. Scarily close, isn't it? You've probably never thought to measure your stubble before, so you will likely have a few scary/fun/harrowing trial runs before you settle on the right length.
The bottom line
Until someone finds a way to develop an iPhone shaving app, the i-Stubble is likely as good – and close – as it gets. But look at five millimetres on your ruler. Who keeps a "short beard" that long? From this scruffy dude's point of view, if you're hanging that far out, maybe you should consider going all the way.
