For those of us who haven't made it on a tropical getaway this season, it's safe to say men and women alike are feeling a little sun deprived – and a lot paler. There are several ways that men can achieve that sun-kissed glow at home, says Guerlain's international beauty artist Maxime Poulin. Look for a gentle self-tanner that builds gradually instead of leaving behind an obvious, streaky finish, or find a moisturizer with a tint built in. For the most realistic look, don't shy away from shine. "The most natural skin is not skin that is completely matte," Poulin says. "It should be kind of glowing or look as if it was moisturized."

For a quick hit of colour, nothing beats a swipe of Guerlain's Terracotta Bronzing Powder, a classic that's been around since 1984. It's popular with professionals who want to look fresh at mid-winter meetings. For men specifically, he recommends using a brush to apply Terracotta horizontally across the forehead close to the hairline, and across the nose and cheekbones. "It will look the most natural, as if you've been hit by the sun, and not as if you've contoured your face with bronzer," he says. If you're worried about a turning yourself an ungodly hue, don't be, as Terracotta is made with naturally occurring pigments. "You will never look orange like a certain president at the moment," Poulin says. He's got my vote.
