Person Coco Rocha

Model Coco Rocha, one of Canada's only household names in the mannequin world, made headlines this week after a New York Times story quoted her as saying she's less in demand as a runway model since gaining a few pounds.

Rocha quickly took to her blog (ohsococo.blogspot.com) to explain that many of her comments were taken out of context, but added that the industry's obsession with weight and often careless treatment of underage models troubles her.

Good on you, Coco.

Place The United States

The United States may be kicking butt in terms of medals at the Winter Games, but the nation was also awarded a more dubious honour this week: It was named the laziest country in the world by the Daily Beast.

The U.S.-based news blog measured dozens of countries using such criteria as calorie consumption and hours of TV watched. Our American neighbours came out on top, followed by, um, us.

To be fair, Canada's high ranking is largely based on our constant, obsessive Internet usage. Like reading the Daily Beast.

Thing Taxi Walker

Speaking of laziness, the Japanese have developed a fun way to combat it.

Happinet Toy's Taxi Walker is a pedometer that features a meter similar to those found in taxi cabs. The cool part? With each step, the meter calculates how much money you're saving in cab fare by hoofing it instead (the funds are based on the average taxi fare in Tokyo).

The gadget costs about $25 and will surely pay for itself almost immediately in bragging rights and toned thighs.
