In Canada, the poverty line is usually defined by a benchmark called the Market Basket Measure, which is the cost to buy a specific basket of goods. Only a smallish percentage of Canada’s seniors are living in poverty, (most of them single women living alone, Indigenous groups or recent immigrants). If Canada has a widespread poverty problem though, it is the working-age population that bears the brunt of it.
