Power defines the Southeast region as Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. The study is the longest-running, most in-depth study of the retail banking industry. Now in its 18th year, the annual study analyzes retail banking customers' satisfaction with their primary financial institution and the impact that satisfaction has on bottom-line metrics, such as retention, loyalty and advocacy.

The 2023 U.S. Retail Banking Satisfaction Study is based on responses from more than 100,000 customers of the largest banks in the United States about their experiences with their retail bank. The responses were fielded from January 2022 through January 2023. This year's study featured J.D. Power’s redesigned methodology that was introduced last year and is more reflective of the banking industry's evolution and how consumers conceptualize satisfaction with their primary retail bank. The methodology measures satisfaction across seven factors (in order of importance): trust, people, account offerings, allowing customers to bank how and when they want, saving time and money, digital channels, and resolving problems or complaints.
In addition to ranking #1 in overall customer satisfaction in the Southeast, Synovus also ranked highest in the region for trust. The J.D. Power Award is among several other recent recognitions received by Synovus, including 20 Greenwich Excellence and Best Brand Awards for the bank's 2022 performance serving small business and middle market clients and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Top Workplaces Award for the fourth consecutive year.
