A lot of cool cars don't come to Canada. The Volkswagen Scirocco R, the Alfa Romeo Fiulietta and the Renault Megane Renaultsport are on that list.
So is the Audi A5 sportback. It has been sold in Europe since 2010 and will enter the U.S. market when the redesigned A5 is launched next year. However, it won't be coming to Canada.
Audi of America president Scott Keogh told Automotive News the German brand will add a new A5 body style. There are 3 variants of the A5 – the coupe, the convertible and the sportback. The coupe and convertible are already sold in the United States and Canada.
"I feel confident that there will be another variant of the A5 that will be a real home run," Keogh said. "There's one we don't have."
When asked if it will come to Canada as well, Cort Nielsen of Audi Canada said, "Very possibly, but not in the immediate future."
The A5 sportback is a smaller version of the A7 with four doors and fastback style. It will compete in the United States with the BMW 3-Series Gran Torismo.
Audi sold slightly fewer than 1,700 A5s in Canada last year.
