What is it?
Porsche positions the new 2017 GTS version of its compact SUV between its Macan S and Macan Turbo with a 3.0-litre 360-horsepower, twin-turbo V-6 that's meant to light your fire. Top speed is 256 km/h; the seven-speed dual clutch transmission will get you from a standing stop to 160 km/h in, oh, about 12.5 seconds.
Signature feature
Porsche Doppelkupplung and traction management systems distribute power to all four wheels, leaving the Macan theoretically able to handle the gamut of Canadian weather conditions.
What else is new?
The new Porsche communication management system (connectivity, infotainment), which was introduced in the 911 earlier this year, is brought to the company's SUV/CUV line for the first time. In addition, there's a reengineered chassis, reinforced brakes, more rigid suspension tuning, lower ride by 15 mm, 20-inch wheels with matte black finish, special GTS sport seats, throaty sports exhaust system with dual tail pipes on each side, exterior high gloss accents above the waistline, a custom version of the company's sport design package in GTS-specific colouring, and optional LED headlights. Aluminum is used underneath to lighten the weight -- notably in the wishbone suspension. It seats five, and the vehicle is equipped with two-stage front airbags and side airbags.
When can we buy it, and for what price?
It will be available in Canada this Spring with pricing to start at $71,600.
Cool quotient
5 stars (out of 5)
Not your typical bring-the-kids-to-hockey CUV, the Macan GTS is inspired by the 911.
