Thanks to Globe and Mail readers, two errors were caught in Monday's Folio pages on Canadian war memorials.
First thing this morning, a reader tweeted: "Hey @globeandmail, I might be wrong but isn't this tower in Montreal not Winnipeg?"
Yes, the reader is right. I first asked a colleague who used to work in Montreal. “That’s in the Old Port, I used to roller blade past there,” he said. And the photo desk confirmed that it is the Montreal Clock Tower in the Old Port even though it is above an article on the Women’s Tribute Memorial Lodge, Winnipeg. Here’s a link to that memorial.
There was a second error on the page and another writer sent in a letter to the editor: “The caption under the large photo used in the Folio section about war memorials indicates it is a list of alumni, students and faculty from the University of Toronto who served and died in the First World War. However, I think these are names from the Second World War. There was no RCAF in the First World War and yet many of the names listed show they were with the RCAF.”
That reader is correct too and the file has been fixed.
There are many ways we find out about mistakes, through Twitter, Facebook, letters to the editor and e-mails to me at publiceditor@globeandmail.com. We also have a spot on the comments page of every article providing a link if you see a typo or error in any story.
We appreciate hearing from all our readers so we can fix any errors as quickly as possible.
