The annual National Zookeeper Week, which starts on the third Sunday of July, runs from July 15 – 21, 2018. Angie Snowie, a zookeeper with the Indo-Malaya section of the Metro Toronto Zoo since 2009, has been working with the greater one-horned rhinos since 2012. The Zoo's exhibit includes Ashakiran, and her six-month-old calf Kiran. Asked what it was like working with the greater one-horned rhinoceros, Angie replies, "In one word; AMAZING! It's a lot of work. They are large animals that eat a lot, require a lot of cleaning and care, but when we conduct official training sessions with them one-on-one, or spend time interacting with them, they are tactile animals that enjoy touch. It makes everything worthwhile."
