Police in Peel Region say 88 people have been arrested in an investigation into a gang allegedly responsible for a series of homicides, “brazen” shootings, and drug trafficking.
Peel regional police say the investigation into the “New Money So Sick” gang has resulted in officers laying more than 800 charges for offences that include murder, human trafficking and drug trafficking.
They say the investigation began in September 2019 when police began probing an alleged drug network in Mississauga, Ont., and Brampton, Ont.
Police say the dozens of the arrests resulting from the investigation include that of an alleged gang leader, Mahmoud Al-Ramahi, who is charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 29-year-old man in August.
They say the man who was fatally shot frequently bought products from an illegal cannabis operation allegedly run by the gang.
Police also alleged the gang was connected with the shooting death of a 17-year-old in September 2019.
“Our investigators are working tirelessly to bring a successful conclusion to all these senseless acts of violence,” said Superintendent Martin Ottaway. “We will not tolerate this within our community,”
