Police are looking for a fugitive and a 23-year-old woman police say was kidnapped after a confrontation between a man and officers in Brampton, Ont., early Sunday.

Peel Regional Police say one officer fired a gun in an “interaction” after police were called to a home for a disturbance around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Peel police say a 21-year-old man fled the scene in a car with an unwilling woman after the confrontation..

The force says Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit, has invoked its mandate to begin an investigation because a weapon was discharged.

Police say the suspect, Kwami Garwood, was driving a black Honda Civic and have asked the public to call 911 if they see him or the victim, Salina Ouk.
