Police say a trailer loaded with a cargo of firearms has been found in Peel Region after it was stolen early Sunday morning in Peterborough, Ont.

They say the trailer carrying more than 2,000 guns is being sent back to Peterborough.

Peterborough police say their officers and the manufacturer will be going through the load to determine whether any guns are missing.

Peterborough police were notified by Peel Regional Police on Monday night that the truck attached to the trailer had been found in an industrial area in Brampton, Ont., but the trailer itself was still missing at the time.

Police had said the truck and trailer were stolen from a trucking yard on Sunday, but that the incident was not a targeted one.

They said on Monday that the theft appeared to be an “isolated crime of opportunity.”
