Three more cases of the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in British Columbia, bringing the total of people infected to 12 in the province.
Earlier, B.C. confirmed its ninth case of COVID-19 in a man who returned from Iran last week.
Dr. Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer, says the man in his 50s began to feel ill after he returned home to the Fraser Health region, which is near Vancouver.
He is in isolation at home and Henry says his family and close contacts are being monitored.
Ontario reported two more cases of the novel coronavirus today, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in Canada to 30.
Health officials have not yet divulged details about the new cases.
But a spate of new ones have been reported over the past few days, all of them people who had recently travelled to Iran or Egypt, or family members of those who had visited the countries.
Ontario’s first four cases were people with a travel history to China, where the outbreak originated, and three of those have since been completely cleared of the virus.
Ontario’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. David Williams, has said the virus doesn’t appear to be spreading locally at this time.
Henry says B.C. is actively testing those at risk and more than 1,000 tests have been done.
She says all cases in B.C. have been successfully managed at home and no one has been severely ill.
